Week 8 in the NFL

Miami at NY Jets
The Dolphins took the first meeting between the two teams earlier this year on Monday Night Football in a exciting fourth quarter. Both teams really doing a great job rushing the football, but in different styles in doing so. Wildcat for the Dolphins and the power game that the Jets have had all season with Thomas Jones. I like the Dolphins in an upset on the road, 24-20 because of the time of possession they will hold throughout the game.

NY Giant at Philadelphia
NFC East on the line today in the "City of Brotherly Love" with both teams not playing real well. This will be a physical game where nothing to be left in the players when this one is over. I think Eli makes it a Giants win in the fourth as brother Peyton rubs off on Eli and takes control. Giants win 27-21.

Denver at Baltimore
Both teams coming off of bye weeks to be well prepared for this one and it should be a defensive battle. Watch both defenses control the game and the Ravens become the first team to knock off the Broncos, 24-23 because of Joe "Cool" Flacco's late quarterback play.

Houston at Buffalo
Matt Schaub has played outstanding this season and finds Owen Daniels and Andre Johnson all over the field today. TO hasn't had an impact at all this season and does not look to get a start here today. Houston gets its first three game win streak in franchise history with a 28-17 victory.

Cleveland at Chicago
The Bears will be playing with heavy hearts as they play on the 10th Anniversary of Walter Payton's death. Emotional game for the Bears and the Browns offer some much needed relief. Cutler and Bears dominate all day long, 30-9 is the final for the Bears.

Seattle at Dallas
How 'Bout Them Cowboys! The Cowboys are right in the middle of the NFC East battle, and after the win against the Seahawks, they will be back only a half game to the Giants in the divisional lead. Romo has Miles Austin becoming a household name for Jerry's team. Austin has more yards and TDs than TO and Roy Williams combined. Dallas wins, 31-13.

St. Louis at Detroit
The two worst teams in the NFC and a game that will be as boring as it sounds, or will it?? Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson try to go for the Lions and Stephan Jackson looks for a huge game as the Rams need a win. I think this is the week. The Rams win for the first time in forever, 17-13.

San Fransisco at Indianapolis
Peyton Manning, enough said. I like the Colts to roll the visiting 49ers at home like they have all season long. Colts win big as everybody gets involved and take a 38-16 win.

Jacksonville at Tennessee
Vince Young finally getting an opportunity to start, even though it was Owner, Bud Adams' idea and suggestion. Young has not looked good this year, but either have any of the other Titans. I like Maurie Jones-Drew on the road and winning 24-19.

Oakland at San Diego
The Raiders finally benched Jamarcus Russell last week but Phillip Rivers is hot. LT has had a tough season for SD, but this may be his break out week. I like the Chargers to win big 41-10 at home.

Carolina at Arizona
Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald, and the surprise defense will take control of this game early. The Panthers have yet to have a good game from Jake Delhomme this year and it may be time to drop him from the QB position. Cards win at home 34-17.

Minnesota at Green Bay
So much more than a football game today. First place in the division on the line. Favre returns to Lambeau. Whatever you want to call this it is and then some. The Packers not only want revenge from the lose in the Metrodome, but to get back at Favre, the Vikings, and to keep the momentum in their favor. I like the reunion of Favre at Lambeau to be unpleasant, especially when the Pack come out on top, 31-27.

Atlanta at New Orleans
The Saints look to stay perfect, as a very good Falcons team. Matt Ryan has played well in his first season plus in the NFL, but too much Drew Brees through the air. The Saints defense has also been a bright spot in the Big Easy. Saints at home on Monday Night, 37-21.

In Kyle Orton Denver Trust

Who would have thought that on April 3, 2009 that right now the Denver Broncos would be where they are now. The Franchise Quarterback, Jay Cutler, traded away to Chicago for a backup QB at best in Kyle Orton and a first round draft pick. Certainly in the future they would be better, but not this season. Defiantly not in 2009 with a rookie Head Coach and a trouble some wide receiver, Brandon Marshall.

Kyle Orton as a starting QB for the Chicago Bears went 21-12 in four seasons. Orton was replaced as a starter for "Sexy Rexy," Rex Grossman. Orton has always been winner, even at Purdue University when he was a top tier pocket passer in the NCAA. Orton a Heisman hopeful until a loss at Wisconsin which followed with a concussion cost him a shot at the prestige prize as a senior. Taken in the fourth round by Chicago in 2005, where he began as a backup. Orton started in 33 games as a member of the Bears and tossed 30 touchdowns in those starts while being sacked 59 times.

Jay Cutler had all the intangibles it takes to be a Super Bowl winning QB in the NFL. Most football scouts would agree that Cutler is one of the top players at his respected position. He comes across as hot headed and defiantly has that "gun-slinger" mentality like that of Brett Favre, and that makes him a unique QB in the league. If it was not for the drama that came along with Josh McDaniels, first year Head Coach of the Broncos, it would be interesting to see what would have transpired.

This season Kyle Orton has outplayed Jay Cutler, almost significantly in some areas. Orton has the Broncos out to a quick 6-0 start as compared to Cutler's Bears at a mere 3-2, and trail unbeaten Minnesota 6-0 as well in the division. Orton also is a early season MVP candidate with the likes of Peyton, Eli, Brees, Favre, and Benson. Orton's QB Rating is above 100 and already with 9 TDs, no wonder Denver is 6-0.

However, in Denver it is not all about Kyle Orton that has the team out to a 6-0 start. The running game has been balanced between rookie from Georgia, Knowshon Moreno and veteran back Correll Buckhalter. Brandon Marshall has came on strong after what was a bizarre off-season to say the least about the Pro Bowl receiver. He leads the team with 29 receptions for 332 yards as well.

Not just about the offense in Denver either, which may be an even bigger surprise out in the Rocky's. The Broncos defense has shown a toughness that has not been seen in Denver since Tom Jackson was out playing Linebacker in the bright orange and blue uniforms. Through six games, the defense has accumulated 21 sacks, 10 of which belong to Elvis Dumervil. Six interceptions as well as a healthy and All Pro play by Champ Baily who has returned with a vengeance this season. The off-season signing of Brian Dawkins was an immediate addition that has paid significant dividends already in the young season.

Head Coach Josh McDaniels, coming from the Coach Belichick coaching staff has a bright future in the NFL and has already coached beyond his 33 years of age. McDaniels has his team believing into what he is selling and what he is selling is exactly what a team needs to do if they want to contend for a Super Bowl. I'll admit that I have just recently jumped on the bandwagon of believing in this team. I thought after the first two or three games it was a fluke and they will come back to Earth. This team is for real and it may very well come down to Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, and Denver for not only home field advantage in the playoffs, but also for a trip to the Super Bowl in February. Watch out AFC, and Chicago it may not have been Kyle Orton's fault you did not win it all or as much as you'd like to have, it may have just been the players around him.

NFL Picks for Week 6

Week 6 is upon us football fans and what a slate of games the league presents us on October 18 and 19. Some of the headlines heading into this weeks action includes Donal Driver, Green Bay WR, is only one reception away from setting the All-Time record for receptions as a Packer. He is tied for the moment with Sterling Sharpe at 595 and plays at Lambeau against the Detroit Lions. Other headlines Eli takes his 5-0 Giants in the Superdome to face the 4-0 New Orleans Saints in what should be a great game. Another marquee games this week include Chicago at Atlanta and Denver at San Diego.

Detroit (1-4) at Green Bay (2-2)
QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson are still uncertain for Sunday's tilt in Lambeau for the Lions. Should interesting to see how that changes the Lions offensive strategy if neither of the two play this week. On the other side of the ball, the Green and Gold welcome back OT and Wisconsin native, Mark Tauscher back to the team. Coming off of a serious knee injury last season Tauscher signed earlier this week and has been limited in practice. I like the addition of Tauscher and think that it will sure up some depth and protection problems for Rodgers and save his behind a little better. I like the Packers to attack through the air early and often. Look for Jennings and Driver to get some deep balls from A-Rod, if he gets time, to air it out. Driver gets the record and the Pack gets the win, 34-17.

Houston (2-3) at Cincinnati (4-1)
Cincinnati coming back home after taking four straight games including a win against all three divisional opponents in the process. The defense and emergence of Cedric Benson has carried the team thus far this season. Houston has the talent but has yet to put together a full stretch of putting it all together and winning games. They come in 2-3, but that's already 3 full games behind the Colts in the loss column. I like Ochocinco and Benson to each have big games against a shaky Texans defense. Bengals avoid a let down at home, 24-16 winners.

Baltimore (3-2) at Minnesota (5-0)
The Ravens have played well this year and yet come to Minnesota on a two game losing streak. Brett Favre complimented and said how much he admired Ray Lewis' heart and desire to play football with the passion he shows each and every Sunday. This may back fire as Ray Lewis fears the wheels going in the wrong direction and needing a win to keep pace with Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. The Vikes have yet to really be challenged this year will have a tough one at home and they will have to duplicate the Bengals success on the ground that they had last week. I like the Ravens to knock off the unbeaten Vikings by a final score of 24-20.

New York Giants (5-0) at New Orleans (4-0)
Eli Manning leads his undefeated Giants into the house that his father Archie helped build. The Giants have had multiple key injuries to begin the young season, but have yet to be phased. The tough, hard nosed defense and running game that has the Giants locked in so far this season. The Saints have been one of the surprising teams in the league because of their defense. Lead by Darren Sharper and his 5 picks has improved the defense and has the Saints where they are at 4-0. I like the Saints at home with a improved running game as well. The Giants have been vulnerable against the run at times this season and have yet to be challenged with a dependable opposing QB like Drew Brees. Saints win the Game of the Week, 27-24.

Cleveland (1-4) at Pittsburgh (3-2)
The Browns benched Brady Quinn, trade away Braylon Edwards, and win 6-3 in Buffalo. What a bizarre week for Cleveland fans. Quinn now has his house up for sale for unknown reasons and the Browns travel to Pittsburgh. Big Ben and the emergence of Rashard Mendenhall has sparked a shaky start for the Steelers and have them back to a game behind the Bengals. Look for more of the same as of late. Mendenhall to pound the ball and Big Ben to close the Browns in the second half. Steelers big winners 31-12.

Carolina (1-4) at Tampa Bay (0-5)
Carolina getting their first win last week should have no problems this week against the Bucs. It is a road game, but let's be honest on a few things. First off, this is a much better team than their record shows, and secondly the Bucs are a lot worse than their record shows. I like the Panthers to win again, 27-13.

Kansas City (0-5) at Washington (2-3)
Rumors circulating daily it seems in the Nation's Capitol on whether or not Tim Zorn will or will not be fired. This may be the game that essentially does put Zorn out of work. If the 'Skins fail to win at home, and impressively win at home to a terrible 0-5 Chiefs team. Matt Cassell has yet to put a great game together for the amount of money the team is paying him has an opportunity to do so this week. This may be an upset pick for some and I will be on that some, KC winner on the road, 16-13.

St. Louis (0-5) at Jacksonville (2-3)
Probably the only thing to focus on this game is Tory Holt faces off against his former team for the first time. Holt spent over a decade in St. Louis and had many great years there before signing with the Jags this off season. I like Holt's new team, to defeat his former team by a comfortable margin. Jones-Drew should have another big game, 20-10 Jags.

Arizona (2-2) at Seattle (2-3)
Both teams coming off of home victories against the Texans and Jaguars, respectively. Seattle has their starting QB back and looked dominate last week at home. The Cardinals behind Warner, Boldin, and Fitzgerald will try and dublicate their success from last week and leave Seattle with a win. I like Zona behind the big 3, 30-24 win.

Philadelphia (3-1) at Oakland (1-4)
McNabb played extremely well last week and the Raiders, well what else do I have to say. The Raiders could fall out of a boat right now and not hit water. They do not look to improve for the remainder of the season. I like the Eagles by many in this one, 38-12.

Tennessee (0-5) at New England (3-2)
Coming into the year, this looked like one of the games to mark on your calenders. However, neither team has shown much success this season. The Titans would like to forget this season and push the restart button, and the Pats would like to rewind the season and off season and kept Matt Cassell. Brady looks like he needs some time off to start the year as he cannot be completely healed yet. He does not look comfortable or in sync with his receivers at all. That being said, I like Tom to get in sync and deliver a win at home, 28-17.

Buffalo (1-4) at New York Jets (3-2)
The Bills should probably trade TO before the deadline, seeing how the experiment has not been successful. Not a good start to the season and does not get any easier for the Bills. The Jets lost a tough divisional game on Monday Night, and it was the defense that lost the game for the Jets. Sanchez passed the ball all around the field against the Dolphins secondary and even got Edwards involved quite a bit, including some deep balls. Jets steam roll the Bills at home, 27-14.

Chicago (3-1) at Atlanta (3-1)
Two of the more popular young QBs in the NFL square off on Sunday Night Football this week in Atlanta. Should be a fun game to watch as both defenses are decent, but the QBs will look to chuck the pigskin all over the field. Cutler has thrown for a pair of TDs in the last two games, and Matt Ryan and Roddy White hooked up for over 200 yards last week and a pair of TDs themselves. This should be close throughout and I'll stick with the home team, 27-21 Falcons win.

Denver (5-0) at San Diego (2-2)
Monday Night Football, Phillip Rivers lifetime is 4-0, completing over 70% of his pass attempts, for just under 800 yards, 6 TDs to only 2 INTs, and a 106.9 passer rating. WOW!!! Thanks to ESPN's Adam Schefter for those numbers, and Kyle Orton is also 26-12 as a starter in the NFL. This could be one of the more underrated QB match ups of the week. Orton has looked very good this season, as well as Rivers. This may turn into a shootout on Monday Night. I like San Diego to finally get something going on defense in the end to prevent Denver from extending their lead and record to 6-0. Chargers at home, 30-27.

NFL Week 5 Picks

Just passed the first quarter of the NFL schedule and now teams have a sense of where they match up against the rest of the league. Many teams such as the Colts, Giants, and Saints have a great start and a leg up on the rest of their division with matching 4-0 records. Others like the Cowboys, Packers, Steelers, and Chargers have had disappointing 2-2 starts and are not where they thought they would be right now in the season. Finally, disappointing and almost but surely seasons that are not going anywhere for teams like the Chiefs, Browns, Titans, Rams, and Buccaneers. Now that week five is here the Saints, Packers, Bears, and Chargers all with bye weeks, let's check the teams that are in action.

Minnesota (4-0) at St. Louis (0-4)
The Vikings helped the old-vet, Mr. Favre pick up a big emotional win against the Packers on Monday night now head into St. Louis for a show down. More like a scrimmage in the park. Adrien Peterson takes control early and often as he rushes for 150 plus yards today and scores a pair of touchdowns as the Vikings cruise to a 5-0 start in 2009. Minnesota 34-13.

Dallas (2-2) at Kansas City (0-4)
Tony Romo has a perfect opportunity to get on track against a struggling KC team. No Roy Williams and no Felix Jones, so look for Jason Witten to have a huge game and a heavy dose of Marion Barber III. KC has a chance if they pass protect against the likes of Ware and Ratliff. Jerry's boys take a road win home with them, 27-16.

Washington (2-2) at Carolina (0-3)
Two of the more disappointing teams in the NFC, and have a lot of work to do to get back on top. The Redskins coming off a loss to Detroit and a narrow escape of the Bucs last week, this should be another close game for the 'skins. Williams and Stewart rush for a combined 200 yards today and get their first win of the 09 campaign. Panthers win 20-13.

Tampa Bay (0-4) at Philadelphia (2-1)
McNabb and Westbrook return for the Eagles and the Bucs have yet to arrive. I see no problems in the "City of Brotherly Love." McNabb gets in and throws a pair of TDs and the Eagles roll. Tampa Bay may look to see what rookie QB Josh Freeman can do today as they struggle once again. Eagles win 34-10.

Oakland (1-3) at New York Giants (4-0)
Eli will start but for how long will he play? The more important question may be, is how long will the Giants need Eli? The Giants will try to get up early and get Eli out as quick as possible. With Jamarcus Russell throwing under 40% completion percentage this season the Giants should wrap this one up around half time. Giants roll behind the legs of Jacobs and Bradshaw, 24-9.

Cleveland (0-4) at Buffalo (1-3)
Derek Anderson with the start today, but no Braylon Edwards as he was shipped to the Jets earlier this week. The TO experiment has yet to translate into success and this should be an interesting game to say the least. I like the Browns to keep it competitive and possibly for the upset. TO gets into the end zone today and help the Bills win, 24-17.

Cincinnati (3-1) at Baltimore (3-1)
Best match up of all the early games this week as they do battle for top spot in the AFC North division. Bengals on a three game winning streak and the Ravens coming off a tough loss against New England. Ochocinco had two TDs last week including the game tying score with only seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Bengals won in overtime, as the Ravens come in emotional after some questionable calls that Tom Brady had go his way. The Ravens defense will come out on fire and hitting every body in the mouth. I like the Ravens to win a tough defensive struggle with few offensive highlights, Ravens win 20-16.

Pittsburgh (2-2) at Detroit (1-3)
No Matthew Stafford, insert Daunte Culpepper as the starting QB for the Lions. The Steelers will be without Willie Parker and no Troy Polamalu in either. The Steelers should not need either one of them as they will roll on Big Ben's arm and Holmes and Ward have big games in the "Motor City." Pittsburgh wins 30-17.

Atlanta (2-1) at San Fransisco (3-1)
Matt Ryan coming off a bye week and still an unhealthy Frank Gore looks for an interesting game on the West Coast. Defensive battle as the running games struggle today and Matt Ryan looks for his top receiver Roddy White, and Hall of Fame Tight End, Tony Gonzalez to keep the chains moving. In the end I like San Fransisco's coaching and Patrick Willis' play to get it done. Niners hold off the birds, 23-17.

Houston (2-2) at Arizona (1-2)
The Cardinals coming off a bye week to regroup and get ready to play football again. Kurt Warner looks to find Boldin and Fitzgerald for multiple scores and over 100 yards each, but can the defense stop Andre Johnson on the other side of the ball. Top two receivers in the game in this one, no running game needed here. I look for close to 100 pass attempts and both Schaab and Warner to throw for 300 yards. Cardinals win 34-28.

Jacksonville (2-2) at Seattle (1-3)
Two straight victories for the Jags and playing well on both sides of the ball. The Seahawks get their starting QB back for the first time in a few weeks as well. I like a close football game in the Great Northwest, and the Seahawks win at home in a narrow escape, 24-20.

New England (3-1) at Denver (4-0)
The teacher takes on his former student as Belichick faces off against Josh McDaniels. The game will be a game within a game as both coaches know so much about the other it will be interesting to see how each side switched up game planning. Denver keeps it close and until the end when Brady takes over in the fourth. Pats' and the teacher get it done, 27-21.

Indianapolis (4-0) at Tennessee (0-4)
Peyton Manning looks to continue his MVP performance this season as he has dominated everyone thus far like he has his entire year. Tennessee's Chris Johnson will get a lot of yards but not much late as the Titans get behind and have to throw it late to try and catch up. Manning throws for 300 yards and three TDs as the Colts win again and improve to 5-0, 35-17.

New York Jets (3-1) at Miami (1-3)
Monday Night Football back in Miami again this season. Mark Sanchez gets his star wide out this week in Braylon Edwards for his debut as a Jet. I like the Wild cat to get shut down for the most part as Kris Jenkins' led defense shuts down the running game and forces Chad Henne to use his arm and throw the ball to beat the Jets. Jets get the win, 27-17.

NFL Week 3 Picks

Last week I didn't get my picks up on my blog in time but to inform my followers that I went . This week has some interesting games as well. The Falcons travel to New England, the Titans head up to the Jets, and San Fransisco heads into Minnesota for a possible NFC Championship preview.

Green Bay (1-1) vs St. Louis (0-2)
The Packers looked so dominate on defense in week 1 over the Bears and last week could not stop Cedric Benson of Cincinnati. Which defense shows up today is yet to be seen. If Steven Jackson gets the Rams going early the Packers may be in trouble against a dreadful Rams team. Also look for a lot of blitzes coming from Spagnuolo against a average offensive line. Green Bay holds on 24-16.

San Fransisco (2-0) vs Minnesota (2-0)
One of the biggest games of the day will be one of the more physical games as well. The Niners will not back down and will pound the ball and hope to ware out the Williams brothers with Frank Gore. Gore had a career game last week, but was a little banged up. Brett Favre may to put a little more effort into this game than just turning around and handing off the ball to Adrien Peterson. Should be a fun game to watch if you like defense and physical offensive lines. Do not expect a lot of points in this one. San Fransisco led by Coach Singletary 's attitude leave town with a victory, 20-13.

Atlanta (2-0) vs New England (1-1)
Matt Ryan returns to the northeast for a football game for the first time since he was a Golden Eagle of Boston College. Ryan has led the Falcons to a sizzling start out of the gates and looks well experienced beyond his years, almost like a young Tom Brady. Ryan will try to outscore the "Brady Bunch" that has looked anything but the 3 time Super Bowl Champions of previous years. Brady has struggled in his timing with the routes and his comfort level. I think the Pats will be fine, but this could be an interesting task for the defense of New England. I like New England in a shoot out. Patriots 34-28.

Tennessee (0-2) vs New York Jets (2-0)
The Titans were the best team for much of last season and have looked far from that this season thus far. "Broadway Joe"who?? That is what Mark Sanchez is trying to do and just might do that. Not really, it is only his third game at the helm in the NFL but Sanchez looks like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco of last season. I like the defense the best of New York with the arrival of Rex Ryan and his boys from Baltimore. I like the Titans to win their first game of the year as they go into NY and beat the GQ Sanchez. Score reads at triple zero, 21-17.

Kansas City (0-2) vs Philadelphia (1-1)
No McNabb, and Michael Vick is back in the NFL. If it was not for playing the Chiefs I would have to go for the upset. However, DeSean Jackson has a big game and Vick shows some life and the Eagles roll but the Chiefs make it interesting in the end. Eagles winner winner Philly Cheese Steak dinner, 27-21.

New York Giants (2-0) vs Tampa Bay (0-2)
Eli did it again last week against the Cowboys in the fourth quarter and now he has the Buccaneers to deal with. Do I smell a let down? I think not. Closer than most expect here but the Giants win with their physical play at the line of scrimmage. Bucs fall to 0-3 as Eli wins again 27-20.

Cleveland (0-2) vs Baltimore (2-0)
The best team in the league thus far?? The Ravens have my vote and would agree because of the play of "Joe Cool." Flacco has displayed a numerous amount of skills and looks to take a giant step forward. Flacco vs Ryan in the Super Bowl?? Wouldn't that be nice. Ravens roll the Browns who cannot figure it out. 38-13.

Jacksonville (0-2) vs Houston (1-1)
The Texans have a great shot today and move to 2-1 on the season. The Jags will play tough and competitive against AFC South rival, but Houston has too much fire power on offense. Andre Johnson will put up 100 yards in receiving and a touchdown. Texans win Texas style, 31-17.

Washington (1-1) vs Detroit (0-2)
This is the week boys and girls. The Lions get off the streak and get the victory. The Redskins haven't put up any offense this season and the Lions have the young arm in Stafford and the Freak at wide out, Calvin Johnson. Lions win, finally, 24-16.

Chicago (1-1) vs Seattle (1-1)
Seneca Wallace starts and the Bears come in off a big win. Seattle is a tough place to play, but Jay Cutler could care less. I like the Seahawks at home because of a let down and the crowd noise at home. Seahawks win 23-17.

New Orleans (2-0) vs Buffalo (1-1)
Drew Brees continues his MVP numbers and tries to keep pace for an All Time record for touchdowns as well. I like the Saints in Buffalo to knock off Terrell Owens and the Bills, 27-19.

Pittsburgh (1-1) vs Cincinnati (1-1)
Intriguing game in the AFC North. I have not liked how the Steelers have played in 2009, and the Bengals look like they have turned a corner away from their dismal off the field behavior. The Bengals a miracle play away from 2-0 move to 2-1 with a big time upset at home. Cincinnati 24-20.

Miami (0-2) vs San Diego (1-1)
The Dolphins could not win Monday Night even though they had the ball for 45 minutes. Phillip Rivers will get a little more time with the football but the result for the Dolphins will be the same. Lightning Bolts win 31-23.

Denver (2-0) vs Oakland (1-1)
The least talked about unbeaten team in the league and for a good reason as they have not looked impressive. They have shown some good defense but on the offensive end they have work to do. I like the Raiders at home and a much more physical team with Seymour. Raiders win 16-15.

Indianapolis (2-0) vs Arizona (1-1)
Peyton again Monday Night put on a clinic of how to come from behind. In four completions he led the Colts into the end zone for the game winning score. Manning against Warner, will be a shoot out in the desert as Reggie Wayne and Larry Fitzgerald each get into the act and the end zone. Colts come into town and move to 3-0. 34-30 Peyton does it again.

Carolina (0-2) vs Dallas (1-1)
The Panthers need this one badly. They should stick with Williams and Stewart on the ground game and blitz and cause pressure and confusion on Tony Romo. The Cowboys will come out aggressive to get on top as Jerry Jones does not want to go 0-2 in his new palace. I like the Panthers to come out and play hard and lose however, Cowboys protect their house with a 27-20 victory.

NFL Week 2 in Review

This week in the NFL gave some spectacular individual performances like Frank Gore's two touchdowns of 79 and 80 yards against the Seattle, Eli and Peyton's game winning drives in the fourth quarter, Chris Johnson's near 300 all-purpose yards in a loss to Houston, and Drew Brees' pace for TD's in a season. It's only two weeks into the season and already there are some points of interest I can see unfolding for the rest of the season.

The Baltimore Ravens' quarterback Joe Flacco has grown up before our eyes in one season. He went from a game manager to a man taking control of the team's offense and leading the Ravens past a superior team in San Diego. Despite for only throwing for under 200 yards Flacco has remained calm and cool in the pocket, "Joe Cool" may be an appropriate nickname for Flacco in the future. I like where this team is and the defense is surely not in mid-season form yet and that is the scary part about this team. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, opponents BEWARE!

As Joe Flacco looks advanced in years, unfortunately for the 105,000 plus at Jerry Jones' new palace, Tony Romo choked once again in a big game. Not only did the Cowboys running game look so dominant throughout the game against a good Giants defense, but Tony Romo made it look elite by throwing three, yes three interceptions against the Giants. Romo was 1-4 coming into Sunday Nights game lifetime against New York, but after last night Romo definitely has work to do to regain some respect around the league. The Cowboys will be fine if the offensive line plays like they did Sunday night and Jason Garrett keeps Tony Romo under wraps and in friendly down and distance plays that will not but a lot of strain on him for a couple of weeks to get his confidence back.

Mark Sanchez has all but written off any other possible Rookie of the Year candidate. Winning your second career start in the NFL against the Patriots and Tom Brady. Now that is saying something about your potential. I know people are going to say he has not put up the numbers or this or that, but quite frankly Mark Sanchez is a winner and that's what Pete Carroll is missing most in Southern California. The Jets with Sanchez have a chance to win 12 games this year in my eyes and their defense is resembling to that of Rex Ryan's Ravens' teams.

Some quick hits now....

Drew Brees threw three TDs against Philly Sunday, now has nine threw two games. On pace for 72 touchdowns this season. I know he will not throw 60 this year, but its fun to watch and keep notice of his progress. I will however be shocked if Brees does not break Dan Marino's pass yards record mark this season and also if he comes up short of 50 TDs this year as well.

TO's dropped pass against the Bucs Sunday was fun to see. I am a TO guy, I think he is funny and likes how he wants the ball every time he is out there, but I will admit it was fun to see TO drop a deep ball that he desperately wanted and was going to score on. He did come back and get his 43-yard TD reception later in the game as he did get his first score as a member of the Buffalo Bills. TO I'm sorry you dropped it, but I was laughing at it and you got what you have had coming to you after all of the words you have given Garcia, McNabb, and Romo over your career.

Arguably the best pair of brothers to ever play the game, Eli and older brother Peyton did it again. How good does it feel to be Archie Manning right about now. Each of his son's with Super Bowl rings, and on the same week in the NFL on back to back nights each put up a fourth quarter come from behind victory on the road must I remind you. Eli calm and casually hits his nameless receivers in Steve Smith and Mario Manningham and get the game winning field goal after Wade's timeout call. Monday Night on ESPN, big brother Peyton, with only 15 minutes of time of possession in the game leads Indy down the field 80 yards in four pass plays including an incompletion. The Mannings' may be on the top of their games right now and it is scary to see what they may do this season against the NFL. I would love to see a Manning Bowl come February.

Recap of Week 1

The NFL season has concluded its extra long kickoff week finally. It all started with a spectacular sight in Pittsburgh on Thursday and ended in a shocker of a game in Oakland late Monday night into the early morning hours of Tuesday. A week full of uncertainties and questions that have and have not been answered as well new problems that have been risen. Many teams with new quarterbacks on display and others with veterans that have shown that they are getting up there in age.

In New York the Jets showed off prized rookie sensation Mark Sanchez against the Houston Texans. Sanchez lead the Jets to a victory in his NFL debut. He was not overall that impressive of a start but getting the win is what's most important to NFL coaches and owners. He did throw a touchdown pass and had a good running game to relax him and also protect him against a defensive stud Mario Williams. Sanchez looked alright and had a great start as a rookie in the league.

Drew Brees also had a fabulous start to the NFL season with 6 TD passes in a route of the Detroit Lions. It was against the worst team in the league but still 6 TDs in an opening game is nothing to take away from a Pro Bowl player. Brees will unquestionably have an MVP type campaign with the style of play the Saints play on offense and especially with all the speed and weapons around him.

Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens also looked very good in his start against the Kansas City Chiefs this week. Flacco, who did not have to do too much last season, but up good numbers as the Ravens defense did not play particularly well against an unproven team in the Chiefs. Flacco threw for over 300 yards and 3 TDs. He also had a good rushing attack led by Ray Rice to help propel the Ravens past the Chiefs at home.

Quarterbacks on the flip side of the coin who did not have a great start of the season include Matthew Stafford, Brett Favre, and Jay Cutler. Brett, three time NFL MVP, had an average start at best, was supported heavily from third year running back and All-Pro back in Adrien Peterson. Peterson racked up three scores and nearly 200 yards on the ground. Favre on the other hand had a hard time with timing and locating with his new receiving corp. Hitting on 14 or 21 throws and only five of which went to receivers on the day. He did have a TD and threw no interceptions but only had 110 yards. Chester Taylor, second string running back, lead the Vikings with five grabs on the day. Mr. Favre has a got to get into more of a rhythm with his new receivers to spread out the defense in order to force opponents defenses to respect the outside threat of the likes of Percey Harvin and Bernard Berrian.

Matthew Stafford, the number one pick in the draft, had it rough as it was to be expected. Not only did he only complete 43% of his pass attempts against the Saints defense, but he also threw three picks to them as well. He did complete three passes that went for 90 yards to Calvin Johnson, but he needs to be more protective with the ball. It was only his first career start in the NFL and he is on the Lions, but turnovers are unacceptable for a young team to be competitive in the NFL. Stafford is going to be highly criticized throughout his career because he was the first pick in the draft and he looks like he can turn this franchise around, but it will not be overnight.

Jay Cutler wanted out of Denver and got his wish, but after his performance on Sunday Night in Lambeau Field he may want out of Chicago now as well. In his first career start with the Bears Cutler threw four interceptions to the Packers and many of them were on Cutler. He did not look comfortable throughout the game except for the first few possessions of the second half. He threw his first pick going back into the middle of the field while rolling to his right, which in the NFL is a no-no. The Johnny Jolly INT in the red zone was an absolute gorgeous and a once in a lifetime type play for the defensive lineman. However, Tramon Williams and Al Harris' picks were also inexcusable throws by a multiple time Pro Bowl player. Despite the poor performance on Cutler's part, the Bears were still in the game with their defense. However, the loss of former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Brian Urlacher will cost the Bears significantly.

The NFL has officially begun and I cannot wait for next week's action to pick up where this week's left off. It will be nice to see how teams that looked much improved in week one from last year if they can keep it up or if week one was a fluke.

NFL Week 1 Predictions

Here it is, finally. Week 1 of the National Football League is upon us and I know that I am so ready for my life to resume once again. The off season has seen many stars shifts ships such as Brian Dawkins, Terrell Owens, and Albert "Big Bank" Haynesworth going else where and as usual the Brett Favre saga took yet another turn in his retire unretire decisions as he is of course back in the purple and gold. Jay Cutler adds another high profile quarterback into the usually run first NFC North. Well here we go as I am surely ready for kickoffs at noon central today.

Miami @ Atlanta
Both teams had absolute surprising seasons last year and nobody will see them sneaking up on anyone this year. The Falcons added a Hall of Fame Tight End in Tony Gonzalez to an already good offense. Turner should benefit from this as the fear of play action passing will keep safeties out of the box. The Dolphins had a great season in winning the division last season, but with Mr. Brady back don't get to high our horse Dolphins' fans. Today I like Atlanta to start with a home win as Matt Ryan hits his new weapon for a TD and Turner hits the century mark and a TD as well. 31-20.

Denver @ Cincinnati
The Broncos will be less dangerous on offense with Kyle Orton at the helm now that Jay Cutler went to the Windy City. Brandon Marshall is uncertain how he is going to play and Carson Palmer and Chad Ochocinco look as if they want to get serious again. The Bengals have a tough schedule but could have a good year. I like Ochocinco to get his feet wet in the end zone again as the Broncos continue to struggle, Cincinnati 27-15 winners.

Minnesota @ Cleveland
The Vikings are considered Super Bowl contenders as they should be and will demonstrate why that is against an uncertain and unproven Brady Quinn led Browns team. AP will rush for 150 and a pair of TDs and Number 4 will throw for a score or two. Not real close as Minnesota 35-13.

Jacksonville @ Indianapolis
The Jags always play tough against their division rivals and with a new coach in Indy this could cause a scare for an early season upset. However, I do not see that happening as Peyton Manning always gives the Colts a chance to win. He hits Reggie Wayne for a score in the 4th to put the Jags down. Colts 24-17.

Detroit @ New Orleans
Detroit looks to hand the reigns to rookie Matthew Stafford and try and avoid another lose. While on the other side Drew Brees has other ideas as he has his visions set on a MVP season and a trip to the playoffs this year. Brees will throw all over this defense and put up good numbers as the Saints march up and down to a 38-16 victory.

Dallas @ Tampa Bay
No TO no problem?? That is the question in Big D. While the Bucs won't have a good season with all the remodeling and departing players will be in rebuilding mode. Dallas on the other hand looks for another playoff berth and Super Bowl admiration on their mind. Dallas blows past the Bucs, 31-17.

Philadelphia @ Carolina
Maybe the game of the afternoon, the Eagles look to contend in the NFC as a top team while Carolina looks to get that sour taste out of their mind after last years beat down on the hands of the Cardinals in the playoffs. McNabb looks to use all his weapons whom are on display today but the Panthers have two backs with mileage to use. Williams and Stewart will control the clock and keep the game close but McNabb gets it done in a dandy of a game. 24-20 Eagles.

Kansas City @ Baltimore
Not much to say here, especially after the news of Matt Cassel not being active today. Brodie Croyle will start against an aggressive defense and a talented offense. The Ravens handle the Chiefs easily and win 27-9.

New York Jets @ Houston
The Texans have the potential to go deep this year with a good pass rush and an outstanding wide out in Andre Johnson. The Jets are a team that can go either way this year. Mark Sanchez is the key and he may have a rude welcome on the hands of Mario Williams if he gets a hold of him. The Texans start off the season right with 24-19 win at home.

Washington @ New York Giants
The Skins have the biggest and baddest nose tackle in the league but can he change the division that much? The Giants are still on top of their game, just with the lack of a big time receiver, and will that hurt them? That is to be determined. I like Eli at home and Jacobs to carry the load to propel the Giants past the Redskins 20-16.

San Fransisco @ Arizona
The new look 49ers take on the NFC Champs and still without a quarterback with much proven. Shaun Hill will lead for SF, but Frank Gore will have to do a lot to keep the 49ers in this games against the high powered Larry Fitzgerald and Boldin at home. Arizona wins 28-17.

St. Louis @ Seattle
The Rams are still near the bottom of the league and Seattle is on its way back up. Seattle doesn't keep this one close for very long as the Seahawks look to regain form from their Super Bowl run. St. Louis loses again, 24-13 Seahawks.

Chicago @ Green Bay
The Bears now have their QB but Aaron Rodgers looks to be considered for an MVP caliber season in the Green and Gold. The defense switched to a 3-4 and drafted big BJ Raji to help out. I like the Pack at home under the lights to win 34-23.

Buffalo @ New England
He's Back!! Tom Brady is back, but wait, it is Monday night, and the Bills have Terrell Owens. TO will get his on opening night as Trent Edwards looks to keep him satisfied but the Pats are back as a Title contender. Pats on MNF win 38-20.

San Diego @ Oakland
LT and the gain think this is their year. Not much off season distractions until the recent Shawne Merriman's Tila controversy. That won't stop the Bolts dismay of the Raiders who have nothing going their way now a days. Chargers win big 41-17.

Opening Night in the NFL

Leaves are about to turn color, days are becoming shorter, schools are starting, and yes, most importantly, the NFL is back. The only sport that really matters in the United States is back and looks to start off with a bang tonight the Pittsburgh. The defending champs begin their championship reign at home against a tough hard nosed Tennessee Titans team tonight on NBC.

I can see how each team has a chance in this one, starting with Tennessee. They may catch the Steelers off guard with receiving their Super Bowl rings tonight and being emotional about that, and also wanting revenge from last years loss to Steel Town in the regular season. The Super Bowl Champs however, still have the core of both offense and defense together from a dominating defense and a off season without controversy for Big Ben. Heinz Ward is getting up there in age but Super Bowl hero, Santonio Holmes looks to have a breakout season and take a big step forward in his career. Big Ben is still an elite quarterback and Mr. Polamalu on defense is a wrecking ball waiting to knock out the opposition. I like the Steelers to pull off a late drive by Big Ben to lead the Steelers into a season opening "W" at home to please the fans and taking a step forward towards a title defense. Pittsburgh 23-16.

I will be back later this week to give you my picks and breakdown of how I see the 2009-2010 season will unfold and who I like to not only win their respective divisions, but also a Super Bowl match up and winner.

National League Review

With breakdowns of each team in the Senior Circuit, I would like now to give some projections in some of the post season awards that will be given out.

Cy Young Award
Last season the Giants young thrower, Tim Lincecum won the award and will be favored to win it again. Other contenders include Johan Santana of the Mets, Cole Hamels of the defending champions Phillies, Josh Johnson of the Marlins, Brandon Webb of Arizona, and Edison Volquez of the Reds. In the end I like it to come down between the Reds' Volquez and the Mets Santana and the Giants Lincecum as a possible repeating performance. This three man race to the Cy Young may come down to which team has the best record in the NL and it is clear cut that the Mets will probably win the East or at least be in contention of the Wild Card. I don't see the Reds or the Giants in the pennant races down the stretch which would eliminating both candidates. The addition of K-Rod to finish some more of Santana's games will result in a few more wins as well that were lost last season to the Mets poor pen.

MVP Award
Much of the same contenders should be included like Albert Pujols, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, David Wright, Alfonso Soriano, and probably the odds on favorite from the Dodgers, Manny Ramirez. The Dodger outfielder will have the biggest impact and if his team successfully makes the postseason it will be largely due to his big stick. Manny was ridicuous in only half a season with his team last year and unbelievable in the postseason as well. Manny may run away with the Award.

Into the playoffs I see the Mets winning the East, Cubs in the Central, Dodgers out West and the Wild Card taken by the Phillies winning over Florida, Milwaukee, St. Louis, and Arizona. In the World Series I like the Dodgers losing to the Mets.

National League West

The National League West is a pitching dominated division that without the big bat of Manny Ramirez may not have any offense in it at all. Although that is incorrect as the Dodgers have many other young hitters as do the Diamondbacks and the Rockies can slug with the best of them, this division has some dynamite fire arms.

Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers retained the biggest impact player and most likely to win MVP in the NL this season when Manny decided to resign with the team that traded for him at the trade deadline last July. Although Manny is quite a hitter he will impact and groom some of the younger players in the clubhouse to become more discipline at the plate like Matt Kemp and Andre Either. These two players will benefit dramatically from Manny's presence in the line up and become better players for the Joe Torre's team. On the offensive side, they lost former All Star pitcher in Brad Penny in Free Agency to the Boston Red Sox and also lost former closer to the Red Sox in Takashi Saito as well. They have some young arms that may be exceptional, especially closer Jonathan Broxton and starters in Chad Billingsbey and Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers will look to make the post season once again as the NL West Champions in 2009 and hopefully take it to the next step as a World Series contender and possibly Champion.

Arizona Diamondbacks
The D'backs were in the race for the title last season until they ran out of gas and Manny took the Dodgers on his back. Cy Young potential as usually Brandon Webb and Dan Haren lead a very good Arizona pitching staff that should not be the reason for a poor season unless it is because they are not healthy. Jon Garland should provide some nice depth to their starting rotation and their bull pen consist of many veterans including the likes of Tom Gordon and Scott Schoeneweis to set up closer Chad Qualls. At the plate the D'backs have many young talented players that should be more matured this year after experience that was gained from last season. Justin Upton in right field, brother of BJ from Tampa Bay, will be counted on heavily to take charge in the out field and also contribute intensively with his bat. Tony Clark will add some veteran leadership in the clubhouse and compete for the division title.

San Fransisco Giants
The Giants have been a popular pick this preseason by many experts for a break through season. I like the front of their rotation and the addition of Randy Johnson if he stays healthy. Tim Lincecum should draw legitimate Cy Young considerations from the voters with the season he is looking to have. He won it last season and a repeat is not out of the question for this year. Matt Cain is another nice young arm for the Giants as he also continues to grow and mature as a starter. Randy Johnson needs to remain off the Disabled List and avoid missing starts. If he can routinely pitch every 5th day and go 6+ innings to help the bull pen stay fresh it will really help out in the starts by their 5th starter. In the field and at the plate, the Giants are still a few years away from competing in this division and for a title. They do not have any power in their line up and not a lot of big league experience with them either. In time this will be a very dangerous team, but this season will go only as far as Lincecum and Cain can carry them.

Colorado Rockies
Probably the team in this division with the most pop in the bats of any line up. Troy Tulowitski, Chris Iannetta at catcher, Garrett Atkins, and even an aging Todd Helton will provide plenty of offense for the Rockies and will try to out pitch their opponents as they always seem to do. They have a good mix with young and veteran players in the field to help then grow and become better players as well. On the mound they lack a dominant staff and only have one big time potential as a stud pitcher in Ubaldo Jimenez. They also picked up former Oakland Athletics' closer Huston Street to close games for them this season. Aaron Cook will also be looked upon to pick up his performance from last season to help out the offense so they do not have to put up 7+ runs per game to be successful. This team may also be a couple of key position players and a few pitchers away from returning to the World Series team away as they were in 2007.

San Diego Padres
The Padres do not have much to look forward to this season other than waiting to see where their star pitcher will end up being traded too. It seems not a matter of when but where the flame thrower will go. The Padres should however, they should get some high talent in return for the stud ace. The Padres have Peavy and Chris Young as two outstanding young arms to anchor the starting rotation of their staff and have an nice looking closer in Heath Bell to take over for the departed All Time Saves leader, Trevor Hoffman. Adrian Gonzalez at first base is the only major run producer the team can count on having a productive year as the Pads' will struggle to score runs this year as they did last. Offensively challenged would be an under statement and it does not help that they play in the pitcher friendly Petco ball park that runs come at a premium. It looks as it will be a couple of years before the Padres become contenders again in the west and will surely finish in last place in 2009.

National League East

I know opening day has come and gone but I would like to submit my projections for the rest of Major League Baseball Divisions and what I expect to happen.

New York Mets
The Mets had a ton of problems last season trying to close games at the end. The Mets did not mess around any longer as they signed the AL Cy Young Award runner up and single season Saves Record holder in K-Rod to multi year deal, and also traded for Mariners closer J.J. Putz to fix the bullpen issues. They did not do much on the offensive side of things which is understandable. Carlos Delgado had a rebirth last season and they still have the best left side of the infield in the National League in David Wright and Jose Reyes. I look for Johan Santana to continue his dominance in the NL and Oliver Perez to step up after a big contract to help out the rotation. The Mets in a new ball park should win this division, ironically because of their bullpen.

Philadelphia Phillies
The defending World Series Champs are back and have much the same roster as they did from last years team. Reliever J.C. Romero will miss the first 50 games with a steroid suspension, but Brad Lidge still has not blown a save in a Phillies' jersey. Cole Hamels will have to prove that the WBC injury will not affect him and come back to his dominant self in the post season. Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins will carry the offense as they have over each of the last three plus seasons in Citizens Bank ball park. I like this team to compete with the Mets all the way until the final couple of days or weeks but end up bidding for a Wild Card spot in the NL.

Florida Marlins
A team always in the bottom of the payroll scale in baseball, but this team always has amazing young talented ball players that nobody knows entering a season. Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla will carry this young team with the leather and at the dish, they will defiantly put up some tape measure shots as well as steal some bases. The Marlins also have a bunch of young arms that will be vital if they plan on being in the playoff run until the end of the season. Josh Johnson a contender for the Cy Young will anchor the young staff and try and take down the giants of the East in New York and Philly. Big things to come from this team as they will move into a new ball park next season.

Atlanta Braves
After failing to make the playoffs for the first time a over a decade the Braves are in a bit of rebuilding mode, but still have an upside of competing with the front runners. The acquisition of Derek Lowe to be the ace of the staff to take pressure off of Tim Hudson to carry the load all by himself and help mold some of the younger arms. Chipper Jones had his best year in Batting Average last season flirting with .400 for much of the year will be added by Brian McCann's much improved bat from behind the plate. They have a nice looking rookie center fielder as well in Jordan Schafer. I see the Braves finishing 4th in a very competitive NL East.

Washington Nationals
The Nationals tried to get in on the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes but like the hometown O's lucked out. They did however bring in Adam Dunn, so they will get some long balls leaving the yard in their nice stadium. Other than Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman working at the hot corner not a lot of expectations to come of this season for the Nats. Maybe in a couple of years they will be competitive but as of now they do not have a promising supply of younger players in their farm system to work with in trading for players and in a tough economy they may be better off in saving those younger players and build for the future. I see the Nationals throwing in the towel early this season and hoping that next year arrives sooner rather than later.

Predicting the National League Central

Final it's upon us. The Super Bowl is over and the Steelers had their victory parade. The College Football season is over as Super Human Tim Tebow won his second national title at Florida and Valentine's Day is beyond us. It is here the much anticipated report of players to Spring Training in the warm climates in Arizona and Florida.

Last season was a break through season for the Milwaukee Brewers as they went for it, with the acquisition of getting CC Sabathia. They went to their first postseason in 26 years and were bounced by the eventual champions of the league. The Cardinals flew under the radar and were Wild Card contenders up until the final three weeks of the season. Houston also flew under the radar as they made a late season run for the Wild Card slot as well.

This season, Cincinnati will try and become last years Tampa Bay Rays and the 2007 Colorado Rockies. They have many young pieces in place in the field, some very impressive young pitchers that are only going to continue to get better, with a veteran manager in Dusty Baker. They should have a good season with good health.

Chicago Cubs
Last season they had the best record in the National League and did not do anything to take away from that core of players. They added Milton Bradley, a power hitting switch hitting bat in the outfield, from Texas to play right field. They also added a closer in Kevin Gregg from Florida. The Cubs have the elite starting rotation the the division and a deep bullpen. They will no doubt be the odds on favorite to win this division for the third consecutive season. I can see this team finally breaking through and making it to the World Series. I can also see injuries, like most teams, get to this team in just the wrong places and this team struggle once in October and falter like they have each of the past 101 years.

Milwaukee Brewers
For the first time in 26 years the Milwaukee Brewers could say they were among the best 8 teams in Major League Baseball as they made it into the Wild Card slot of the playoffs. Although other than Ryan Braun, no one decided to show up and hit for the club. CC was worn down in his only start and the offense could not muster up any offense to challenge the Phillies as they lost the series in 4 games. This year they lack an "Ace" to anchor the staff, however, they have two veterans in Suppan and newly acquired Braden Looper to add experience in the young group of starters. Yovani Gallardo and Manny Parra look to take a step forward in their careers and develop into last years Sheets and Sabathia combo that they had. They added a closer, in Trevor Hoffman, something they did not have last season as well. Torres did a good job as the leader in a bullpen by committee which cost them many games through out the year. Offensively look for Braunie to continue to improve and emerge as a serious MVP candidate and Prince Fielder to have a better season than last years downfall after his own MVP campaign in 2007. Also look for young players like Matt Gamel and Alcides Escobar to be called up and show Milwaukee what their futures will look like.

St. Louis Cardinals
Last season the red birds were decimated by injuries and this year will start out the same way as they await for a healthy Chris Carpenter. They do not have a deep nor a good pen on paper, but La Russa always gets the most out of his players. The Cardinals also have Albert Pujols and with that guy they are in every game no matter where they are playing at. Always a legitimate MVP and may very well repeat his performance from last season. They will struggle but look for good things out of this team and do not be surprised if they are around through August into September.

Cincinnati Reds
Possibly the team to come from no where this season and make a run for the Wild Card this year and become everyone's Cinderella is the Cincinnati Reds. They have two outstanding young flame throwers in Johnny Cueto and near Cy Young Award winner last year Edison Volquez. Volquez traded for Rangers OF Josh Hamilton straight up a few summers back may end up being one of the greatest trade in history for paler for player. Both All-Stars and both carrying their respective teams a season ago. This year if he remains off the DL Volquez is a 20 win potential of a pitcher this season. If he gets 20 and his fellow members of his rotation do a good job limiting walks and the long ball they will be in many games with a prolific offense with young stars like Joey Votto and Jay Bruce coming into their own late last season. This team should be fun to watch all summer and into fall.

Houston Astros
Not sure how this team will fare in 2009, but one thing is for certain. Roy Oswalt will be dominant on the mound and Lance Berkman has been a man and maybe starring at a MVP Award this year if he gets some help by his team winning. He is a lock for 35-40 round trippers and easily 100 RBI. Carlos Lee should have another great season and with a emerging Hunter Pence in Right Field with an absolute cannon of an arm Houston may be alright. That being said, they do not have much else right now and I'm thinking 2010 or 2011 may be the year for their time.

Pittsburgh Pirates
Well somethings have not changed. This will be another long season for Pirates' baseball fans. I guess that does not matter as the Steelers won their sixth Super Bowl and the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball team has looked outstanding to this point as March madness is nearing. This will not be a good season for the Pirates and they should be able to develop some young talent and hope their break is coming in the near future as Milwaukee and looks Cincinnati's turn is here.

In the end I see the Cubs winning the division with Milwaukee and St. Louis keeping it respectable and surprise Cincinnati giving all the teams in the division fits throughout the year coming down the stretch run. Edison Volquez should be the best pitcher of the Central and Braun, Berkman and Pujols being the top three offensive players.
